I once read a discussion about this particular Norman Rockwell painting. The angle of the grandma's arms and wrists, and the real-world weight of the turkey are subconsciously jarring. Also there isn't room on the table for the platter. There's a visual tension that happens.
Or that's what I read, don't know where.
